Every year, Skönhetsrådet i Malmö (Malmö Council of Aesthetics) presents its annual award to individuals who have contributed in various ways to the city's development and design. The award ceremony is followed by a panel discussion on the theme Trees in the City, exploring the importance of trees to Malmö.

The discussion explores the value of trees to individuals, Malmö's residents, and other living organisms. Preserving mature trees is one of the most important ways to support ecosystem services in urban environments. The panel brings together people who care for Malmö's trees in different places and in different ways. What has their journey been like? What is the city doing, and how can we work together to care for some of Malmö's oldest inhabitants – its trees?

The discussion will touch on motivations and aspirations, challenges and obstacles, values and changing attitudes. It will explore what can emerge from encounters between people and trees, and what thoughtful care can mean for a city, for individuals, and for the identity and appeal of a place.
