The Cup Library is a free lending library containing a curated selection of handmade cups by practicing ceramic artists. For one month, workplaces have the opportunity to use the cups in staff kitchens, meetings, or conferences, allowing them to become a starting point for discussions about design, craftsmanship, and everyday rituals.

Why do we choose one cup over another? Is it the shape, colour, weight, size, or the feeling against our lips that determines our preference? And what difference does it make to know who designed the object, how it was made, and the ideas behind it?

The cup is one of our most personal everyday objects. Used daily, it creates a direct relationship between object, body, and senses. Through The Cup Library, we want to encourage people to pause and pay attention to the objects that are often taken for granted. The project raises questions about the value of design, materials, craftsmanship, and local production. What does it actually cost to create a handmade cup?

All cups in The Cup Library can be ordered directly from the respective ceramic artists.
