Bart Brands was trained as a landscape architect and co-founded the office of Karres+Brands landscape architects with Sylvia Karres. Today, Bart is director and co-owner of karres+brands. He has played a central role in the design of Federation Square in Melbourne, Købmagergade in Copenhagen, De Nieuwe Ooster cemetery in Amsterdam and the feasibility study for Cross River Park in London. In recent years, he has worked primarily in the field of university sites and campuses, including the transformation of the campus of VU University Amsterdam, and the Delft University of Technology’s Science Park. Besides his work for karres+brands, Bart has been a jury member for various design competitions, both at home and abroad. Bart lectures regularly at numerous universities, and he is currently an adjunct professor at the RMIT University (Melbourne).
