The Swedish Book Arts Association jury consists of people active in graphic design, publishing, printing, bookbinding, illustration and photography. The jury selects 25 books that meet the requirements for design, typographic execution, function, durability, degree of innovation and communication. The jury rewards the good everyday book as well as the innovative expressions.

To celebrate the anniversary, a selection of previous years' catalogs will also be shown as well as an introduction to the exciting world of book production.

Selection 2022

Among the selection and submitted contributions, the jury notes that threads are a recurring and distinctive theme both in terms of content and production. A thread leads somewhere and is used to tie together and create patterns. But it can also mean having to detach oneself from the threads of inheritance, a word that is also found in the title of one of the selected books. In terms of content, a strong theme among the submitted books was depictions of loss and grief. Threads to the past and what has been lost are also found in the binding techniques, where colored threads are woven into the stories.

The bookmarks, or reading ribbons, which function as exclusive bookmarks in fabric, were significantly more recurrent this year. This also applies to the use of protective covers in the design. Another popular production detail was the open book spines. You can also see a big use of raw, light cardboard and a restraint in terms of color use. Gray is most common, but black and brown also featured strongly in several books.
