With 840 program activities at 220 different locations, over 1,500 participants, more than 100 partners, and nearly 100,000 visitors, Southern Sweden Design Days has, during its first five years, challenged and expanded the perception of what design is.
Both local and international audiences have experienced design in all its forms – from problem-solving and driving innovation, to explaining complex issues, understanding specific users, and envisioning future scenarios and possible solutions.
Malmö serves as the stage, and over the years everything from the flower kiosk at S:t Knut to the Zenith allotments, Malmö Rowing Club, the Cowgirl gallery, hotel rooms, and designers’ private homes have become venues where creativity and design come to life in unexpected places.
Southern Sweden Design Days has created a platform for a broad and innovative program – including projects such as SPOK TV, Locally Alien, Pundarslöjd, and Väntrum.
SSDD also serves as a springboard for new collaborations and contexts – for example through PRE-SSDD 2024 at the Eurovision Song Contest media center, where Swiss artist Nemo discovered PAMPAS and fell in love with Malmö designer Linnea Samia Khalil’s unique creations. A close collaboration began, and the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest wore her designs on stage and on the red carpet throughout the event.
Southern Sweden Design Days is organized by Form/Design Center – the leading meeting place for architecture, design, and crafts in southern Sweden.
Open to all
Southern Sweden Design Days is aimed at a design-interested public as well as professional visitors. With a train ride only 30 minutes from Copenhagen, Malmö is a central hub for creativity, sustainability and culture. The participants are active in design, architecture and crafts and count both individual practitioners, offices, studios and collectives, producers and companies active in the field of design, colleges and universities, cultural institutions as well as industry organisations and associations.
