Luffarslöjd (Dratenik in Czech) in Central Europe is associated with the repair of ceramic storage vessels, bowls, and roasting pans. Travelling craftsmen, equipped with wire and a few pliers, went from village to village and could repair these valuable kitchen items by reinforcing them with a wire mesh. The craft disappeared in the mid-20th century as everyday ceramics became cheaper or were replaced by other materials.
We will begin with a short presentation on wire work in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, both historically and today. Afterwards, we will decorate a pot with metal wire.
